Editorial
I’m a natural-born storyteller who loves to work with words and images in the field, where the most compelling stories are found.
I’ve crossed Sudan’s Bayuda Desert for SUITCASE, documented the resilience of communities in Senegal for the Royal Photographic Society Journal, discovered WWII crash sites in the England’s Dark Peak for Geographical, shared tea with the Tuareg for JRNY, and travelled through Tibet’s forgotten kingdom for Bradt.
Stories are how we tell the world who we are. They are the basis of all communication. And told wisely, they can transform the world we live in. Let’s bend the universe. I hold an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from UAL. You can see more of my writing on my Substack
I’ve created magazines, blogs, social and video content. I’ve worked with brands to develop their tone of voice, speaking to the right person in the right way at the right time. And I’ve developed content strategies that help build engagement between brands and their customers. All the time piecing the narrative together across multiple platforms to promote engagement.
Both literally and figuratively, stories have the power to transport you. As a travel journalist I’ve travelled from Malawi to the Antarctic and to central China just as the pandemic kicked off. My friends joke that I’m patient X. But I’m serious about the power of stories to change. Stories are how we tell the world who we are. They are the basis of all communication. And told wisely, they can transform the world we live in. Let’s bend the universe.
The thing that ties my passions together is storytelling: I’ve worked as a stylist, scout, shoot producer, journalist, magazine editor and digital content producer. Whether I’m working in TV or print, it’s about creating connections through pictures and words. And I’m always searching for the gold at the end of the rainbow.
My practice is rooted in documentary storytelling. I’ve crossed Sudan’s Bayuda Desert for SUITCASE, discovered WWII crash sites in the Dark Peak for Geographical, shared tea with the Tuareg for JRNY, documented the resilience of communities in Senegal for the RPS Journal, and travelled through Tibet’s forgotten kingdom for Bradt.
I hold an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from UAL, and my work has been recognised by the Sony World Photography Awards, Arles Open Walls and The Royal Photographic Society.
Photography and writing help me hold onto a sense of wonder — at places old and new, natural and man‑made, still and in motion.
We couldn’t have asked for a better partner to bring our story to life.
—Rémi Hémeryck, Executive Director of SOS SAHEL
My practice is rooted in documentary storytelling.
I love work where like to get close and down in the dirt - from the Sudan to Senegal - pulling stories out of the flux of people and place and fashioning them into appropriate stories for audiences.
I'm passionate about solving problems through creativity. I love making things. I love inventing. I love telling stories.
A joined‑up approach to storytelling for travel, hospitality, and lifestyle brands.
I bring narrative intelligence to brands, publications and organisations, working at the intersection of creative direction, photography and writing.
Drawing on two decades in brand agencies and editorial fieldwork across multiple continents, I help clients shape stories with clarity, nuance and strategic intent.
I partner with brands, agencies, and organisations to craft powerful, editorially‑driven visual and written narratives.
With agency experience at Wunderman and Ogilvy, an MA in Photojournalism, and editorial credits including SUITCASE, Geographical, Royal Photographic Society Journal, and JRNY, I understand how to shape stories that resonate.
The result is authentic, compelling visual narratives for audiences who value meaning over marketing.
“It's not always a guarantee that a photographer will be as comfortable writing, but I was really impressed by Nick's words – he gave an atmospheric, characterful and thoughtful vision of the Bayuda desert.”
Olivia Squire, Editor, Condé Nast Traveller (previously Suitcase Magazine)
