Authored narratives of people, place, and craft—where editorial craft meets strategic brand thinking.
Peak District, England
Studio
Nicholas Holt Studio partners with brands and publishers to craft authored narratives designed to be remembered—combining photography, long-form writing, and creative direction.
Each project begins with a clear understanding of brand essence and what makes a place or product distinct. Strategy and editorial craft move together, shaping stories that resonate on a human level, not just a commercial one.
This is not execution-only work. Strategic thinking is integrated throughout, resulting in narratives that build meaning over time rather than chasing short-term visibility.
The Distinction
Strategic. Every project interrogates brand essence so the narrative is commercially durable, not just atmospheric.
Authored. One voice across photography and prose—moving beyond influencer aesthetics toward genuine depth.
Integrated. Not a production bolt-on, but the synthesis of brand intelligence and documentary craft.
Capability:
Photography
Long-form writing
Creative direction
Brand consultancy
Place-based storytelling
farfrom.co
Far From is the studio’s independent editorial platform—a publication for the intentional traveller and the clearest on of its authored approach. It focuses on long-form photography and writing rooted in immersion, observation, and a considered relationship with place.
This editorial practice underpins, but does not limit, client work.
Narratives can be developed as commissioned editorial or brand stories for print and digital platforms—designed for depth, longevity, and brand equity rather than transient reach-driven content.
Location Peak District, England — Available for commissions worldwide.

Specialisms
Hotels, Lodges & Destinations
For properties with a distinct character or ethos, photography is the baseline; narrative is the differentiator. The studio helps articulate a philosophy of place that attracts guests who value atmosphere and intention over amenities.
Recent commissions include work for high-end eco lodges and traditional luxury properties, where narrative is treated as a core part of brand identity rather than an accessory to content marketing.
Lifestyle & Purpose-Led Brands
For heritage, outdoor, travel and craft-driven brands, the studio bridges promotional content and authored storytelling, combining commercial brand thinking with an editorial craft.
Publications & Cultural Bodies
Authored photo-essays and reportage for titles including SUITCASE, Geographical, JRNY, Bradt, and the Royal Photographic Society Journal, with a specialist focus on journeys, landscape, and environmental change.
What people say
Nick's brain questions things and challenges the norm. His brain pushes boundaries and doesn't accept mediocrity. Quite simply, Nick has the most creative brain I've ever come across.
—Steve White, Managing Director, RedC Marketing
It's not always a guarantee that a photographer will be as comfortable writing, but I was really impressed by Nick's words – he gave an atmospheric, characterful and thoughtful vision of the Bayuda desert.
— Olivia Squire, Editor, Conde Nast Traveller, Formerly Print Editor, SUITCASE Magazine.
